Some of the Places I’ve Lived or Traveled To

I have lived in several locations. Here is a map of some of them. The official travel site doesn’t have some of the countries and major cities so I’ve have about 18 more locations than those on the map. But there are many more I’d like to visit. Someday.

Steve E. Enjoys Guadalajara Hamburger

Brother-in-law Steve enjoys a burger in GuadalajaraBrother-in-law Steve enjoys a great hamburger with friends and I in Guadalajara near Plaza Mexico on Av. Aztecas. The all high-grade beef burgers are the best and the toppings bar is excellent and bottomless. The clients tend to be upscale and the atmosphere is nearly open air but well shaded in a residential area. Give a try. TripAdvisor Popularity Index is 12 out of 107 restaurants in Guadalajara. Thanks to David Agren for providing the name of the restaurant. It’s la Esquina on Av. Aztecas. David, a journalist traveling Mexico, writes and photographs stories for commercial media, the wire services, and his blog, The not-so-low-rent correspondent.

Private Home in Ajijic Jalisco Mexico

A home where I stayed while the owners were off vacationing. It’s located on the north shore of Lake Chapala, Jalisco, south of Guadalajara which is in the center of Mexico. I may stay there again some day, if I behave. They have a nice, young, standard poodle named Rolex.

Taqueiros Restaurant Guadalajara

Taqueiros Restaraunt Guadalajara MexicoI think one of the best restaurants in Guadalajara is “Taqueiros” out on the west end. It’s a large almost open air place with seating for 100 or more and tightly run by the ever present and watchful eye of its owner, a young, married, upscale and friendly Cuban guy living in Guadalajara. On weekends there is almost always a wait while you hang on to one of the wireless red pagers. Beer are drinks are free outside while waiting for a table. Inside the decor in uniquely a cross between something out of a thatched roof Cancun beach house and an upscale Puerto Vallarta restaurant but with earth toned vinyl table clothes. Lighting is warm and indirect but large windows expose Av. Patria and passing cars. The clients are upscale of all ages with plenty of new BMWs, Mercedes, and shiny black Cadillac Esplanades parked out front.

The food is definitely middle class Mexican but oh so expertly prepared, tasty, fresh, and hot and spicy if you indulge in the salsas. A wide compliment of original fresh green and red salsa dishes like none other are on the table all the time, and for which I think they are famous for in part. Consider the Cheese and Shrimp Molcajete which comes out boiling in a red hot black, stone, lava bowl.

A modest but very fresh, lush, green salad bar is all-you-can-eat with select menu items. The facility is very clean and the spotless kitchen and walkup exterior bar is out front in full view.

There is more than enough staff and service is among the best I’ve experienced in Mexico yet prices are modest and affordable. Kids and families are welcome and there is plenty of parking out front or around the side or back. Located on the west side of Patria, going south, a couple blocks from Av. Vallarta.

Lake Chapala Mexico Pelican

Pelican In Flight Made another trip to the southeast corner of Lake Chapala. White Pelicans live there in the winter before migrating back to the northern USA and Canada for the summer. Tens of thousands of pelicans are said to winter at the lake eating mostly a small fish called Telapia and enjoying the warm tranquil waters of the lake. Local fisherman often feed the pelicans in late afternoon causing a flurry of activity, flight, and a feeding frenzy, making photography rather easy. More photos…

Nikon D50 camera with 26,000 exposures on it.

Colorful Birds At Lake Chapala

Bird at Lake Chapala, Jalisco, MexicoIt was pouring down rain and this bird was flying around in front of large window in a house at Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Despite the rain and wet windows I got off a few shots of him. There are many beautiful birds living at and near the Lake Chapala including pelicans in the winter. See the pelicans at my pelican photo web site.

Mexican Dream Home At Lake Chapala

Night view from poolside - DSC_3305 It’s not an ordinary Mexico home, not at all, and it’s for sale. It’s on the north shore of Lake Chapala, not far from Guadalajara. It’s mostly glass and overlooks the lake and mountains to the south. It’s stylish, modern, slick, white, with black marble, and white tile. Architecturally quite dramatic. Something that you don’t normally see in Mexico. It’s very cool and available for purchase for $685,000 usd. I was offered the opportunity to photograph the home so click the photo for a larger view and more photos of this unusual view and pool home in Ajijic.

Kissing Butterflies, Ajijic, Mexico

Kissing Butterflies, Ajijic, MexicoThis photo was very popular on my Flickr.com site ranking in the top 100 of all Flickr photos. I shot it on a clear day at around noon, in the gardens of the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico which is on the north shore of Lake Chapala.

These two butterflies were kissing while seated on a concrete bench in the warm sun. They didn’t move even as approached very closely with camera pointed at them. They waited till I fired off about ten shots before they both flew away.

American White Pelicans On Lake Chapala Mexico

American White Pelicans, Lake Chapala, MexicoWhite pelicans abound on Lake Chapala, Mexico in the winter. Most are grouped near the small fishing village of Petatan on the southeast corner of the lake. Late afternoon seems to be feeding time and thousands group near the boat ramp while locals toss unwanted talipia fish in the water. Migration paths take them north in the summer into Canada. Alice Miller’s Creative Bluish Quilt Block

My mother makes quilts, beautiful, original, creative, and splashy quilts that you can’t forget.

Here is a block from one of her newer quilts. If you see any of these quilts, most likely, in Kingman Arizona, please mention that you say her quilting here first.
